Through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary contributions, the DH Doctoral Symposium 2024 of the Doctoral School in Digital Humanities (UniGe-UniTo) aims to further explore the concept of "lack of cultural critique" (Fiormonte 2012) and "situated knowledge" (Haraway 1988) in its multiple declinations in the field of DH: in particular, the active and embodied nature of the researcher, the opportunities arising from the application of information technologies to the humanities, and the challenges related to the use of technological tools that are usually considered neutral, but which profoundly influence the epistemologies and practices of humanities research.
The contributions expected for the conference welcome perspectives from historical and philological analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, cultural criticism, and sociological, literary, artistic, and linguistic disciplines supported by digital and computational approaches. Attention will be paid to the linguistic, geographical and cultural hegemonies of DH, to the major issues of communication and domain informatics, to the biases introduced by the extensive use of Large Language Models, and to the complex interactions between artificial intelligence, practices and artistic and cultural heritage, also with a view to teaching DH and/or through its tools.
Following the invited speakers’ talks, a round table will be held with the doctoral students to address main questions raised during the first half of the day.

List of Topics
(ENG below)
----ENG----
- The nature and method of knowledge construction using digital tools.
- The weight of the geopolitical and linguistic-cultural composition of research subjects on the construction of digital resources and the use of these tools.
- The ways in which DH have become established over time as disciplines separate from the humanities and IT from which they originate.
- The relationships of meaning that are created between material and immaterial heritage, their digital representation, and the dynamics with which DH allow for (im)possible compensation.
- Reflection on the disciplines that have yet to be fully recognised within the DH umbrella, and on the dominant trends.
