European Project Semester Workshop 2022
ICT & Engineering Education
Glasgow Caledonian University
19-21 October 2022
Motivation and focus
Engineers, while major actors of change, need to master the scientific and technical aspects of their field, understand globalisation, communicate effectively, and base their practice on sustainability, ethics and inclusiveness. Engineering schools have thus the responsibility to explore these dimensions with their undergraduates. The European Project Semester (EPS) is an illustrative example of a student-centred capstone design semester offered by a collection of European higher education institutions. Its goal is to consolidate and potentiate previously acquired knowledge, improving the preparation of future engineering professionals. This is achieved through project-based learning, multicultural and multidisciplinary teamwork, open-ended briefs, ethics and sustainability driven design and development.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be explored to modernize and make engineering education more attractive to students. In this regard, ICT allows to innovate and catalyse student learning. The goal is to share and showcase how innovative learning experiences supported by ICT tools can be successfully explored by engineering educators.
This event is an opportunity to bring academics, including those involved in EPS, together to discuss key trends and share best practices in this domain.
Aim and scope
This workshop welcomes research papers reporting learning experiences which address the challenges and answer questions related to improving engineering education with the help of ICT. For example, how to explore innovative teaching methods, how to improve student success, which real world problems captivate learners, and similar. It solicits original work, already completed or in progress. Position papers will also be considered.
Paper preparation
Authors must prepare their submissions following the instructions of the CEUR one-column available at CEUR site: http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip.
Submission Guidelines
Authors should submit a PDF version in CEUR one-column style using the workshop EasyChair site: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=epsw2022. The papers must be original, i.e. not published nor submitted to other workshop, conference or journal. The length of papers is between 5-20 pages (1 page = 2500 characters), including references. The following paper categories are welcome:
- A regular paper has between 10-20 pages.
- A short paper has between 5-9 pages.
Submitting a paper to the workshop means that if the paper is accepted, at least one author will attend the workshop and present the paper.
