Nurse's participation in the process of disclosing HIV / AIDS in childhood is little explored in the literature. Objectives: to reveal the experience of nurses in preparing family members to reveal the child's HIV-positive condition. Methods: Qualitative research developed with the Creative and Sensitive Method, with 13 nurses in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Data treated with Orlandi's speech analysis. Results: Discourses of prejudice and structural stigma represent obstacles to the nurse's participation in the process of preparing family members to reveal HIV / AIDS to children who are HIV-positive. Conclusions: The right of the child to have access to information about his condition is recognized, as long as it is safe and in clear and atraumatic language, which requires prior preparation by the person who will make the disclosure.
