Abstract

The Krukenberg tumor is a malignant neoplasm of digestive origin together with ovarian metastasis with prevalence in premenopausal women, having a low incidence representing 1 to 2% of all ovarian tumors, due to the fact that its clinical presentation is nonspecific and its prognosis is unfavorable. Since at the time of diagnosis most patients are in an advanced clinical stage, a positive histopathology for signet ring cells is key in this diagnosis. Next, the case of a 75-year-old female patient is exposed, who comes to the consultation for presenting epigastric pain of 1 year of evolution that does not subside with clinical treatment, instead she refers vaginal bleeding of 11 months of evolution, a biopsy was performed of pelvic mass whose histopathological report showed signet ring cells. The objective of the article focuses on the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment and systematic evaluation of a gastric neoplasia in order to evaluate and identify ovarian metastases, thus improving life prognosis.
