Abstract

The recent research demonstrated soil liquefaction has a strong influence on ground motion so that effective analytical methods for seismic response of liquefiable sites require to be urgently established. The core of a liquefaction model is to propose a simplified pore-water pressure buildup model which can accurately simulate the pore-water pressure progress in liquefaction. The existing pore-water pressure models basically are total quantitative models. They cannot simulate the process of liquefaction under irregular loadings and poorly work for horizontal sites. The pore-water pressure increasing modes of a present incremental quantitative model which was obtained by regressing dynamic triaxial tests data differs noticeably from those in shaking table tests and centrifuge tests. It cannot represent the progress of pore-water pressure buildup in horizontal sites. In this paper, a revised incremental pore-water pressure ratio model for horizontal sites is proposed by modifying dynamic triaxial data based formulae. The proposed incremental model has been comparatively testified by shaking table testing results under uniform and irregular loadings. The results suggested that the revised model can satisfactorily simulate the pore-water pressure process under uniform sinusoidal and seismic loading, and take into account of different sand categories.
