Nudging the sharing of data in a fair way

EasyChair Preprint 1059

22 pagesDate: May 28, 2019

Abstract

Privacy self-management conferring absolute control to the data subject leads to cognitive overload in most people. In order to promote autonomy, it must be focused and choices have to be simplified. This is a conceptual contribution to Taylor’s unified framework to data justice (Taylor 2017). We focus on two questions: 1. What nudges (default rules, attention enhancing/selecting features etc) are necessary in a fair choice architecture for data transactions? 2. What nudges are impermissible in a fair choice architecture?

Keyphrases: Cass Sunstein, Choice architectures, Digital Nudging, autonomy, data justice, privacy self-management
