The Influence of Personality and Credibility of Social Media Influencers on Adolescent Decision Making

Abstract

A social media influencer is an individual who has the advantage of influencing others in social media through his or her power, knowledge, popularity, position or relationship with users. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship of adolescent selection to social media influence based on personality and credibility factors on adolescent lifestyle, values and knowledge and skills. This study uses a quantititative approach. Based on 546 respondents from high school and university level (ages 15 to 24 years), the study found that the main factors they chose a particular Social Media Influencer were attractive personality, active in social media, had good interaction with followers and high popularity. The findings of the study also prove that the selection of opinion leaders on Instagram based on personality has a significant influence on the lifestyle, values and knowledge and skills of adolescents.
