MMSC 2024: Editor's PrefaceThis volume contains the papers presented at the 3rd International Workshop on Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing (MMSC 2024): Focus on complex processes and systems. It was held at the Technical University of Munich in hybrid format on October 8-10, 2024. The first and second workshops were held online in the fall of 2020 and 2022, respectively. The workshops of this series are dedicated to the memory of Nikolai Botkin (22 March 1956 – 14 September 2019), who made significant contribution to the development and analysis of mathematical models in elasticity theory, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, as well as to the development of numerical methods and algorithms for solving optimal control and mathematical programming problems. The algorithms and methods developed by Nikolai Botkin have been applied in a wide range of fields. The workshop brought together researchers working on mathematical models and numerical methods in various fields: control theory and differential games, mathematical programming, aerospace, biomathematics, and heat transfer, to name a few. Topics such as finite element modeling, parallel computing on high-performance computer systems, convolutional neural networks, machine learning have obtained noticeable attention. Overall, 33 presentations authored by researchers from 16 countries have been delivered. Five best presentations of young scientists were honored by a certificate of the Program Committee. In total, 22 papers were submitted to the Proceedings, from which 19 have been accepted for publication after peer review. The online conference management system EasyChair made submitting, reviewing, and proceedings generation processes very convenient. We gratefully acknowledge the work of the International Program Committee and greatly appreciate the contribution of reviewers to the quality of the Proceedings. We warmly thank the section chairs, all presenters and attendees for actively contributing to the success of MMSC 2024. Furthermore, hosting the workshop and support by the Technical University of Munich are gratefully appreciated. Varvara Turova Andrey Kovtanyuk Johannes Zimmer November 25, 2024 |
